In partnership with Jamestown, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is building the first plaza at North Avenue on the Eastside Trail. The plaza will function as a public space immediately adjacent to the Ponce City Market development. Trail users will have a place to step off the trail and gather, with more entertainment options becoming available as shops and restaurants open in Ponce City Market.
The plaza will be accessible from the bridge over North Avenue and from the existing access path to Ponce City Market’s rail shed deck. Ponce City Market will also construct stairs and an elevator from North Avenue that they will make accessible to the public. A heavily planted bio-retention area and native grass meadow will separate the plaza from the existing trail. The plaza area will have granite pavers with plantings planted throughout the plaza.
Work at the North Avenue Plaza is close to completion – expect an opening date of spring 2016.
